About Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)

Cherraan’s College of Pharmacy was established in the Year 1994 by Cheran Foundation Trust to impart education of higher standards. Pharmacy Practice department was established in the year of 2014. The department has well equipped laboratories and computer lab with internet facility. Library has stacked with wide range of books, periodicals and journals. Our department has MoU with NG Hospital Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore. It is a multi-specialty hospital located in the heart of city. Dept. of Pharmacy Practice has well established Drug and Poison Information Centre with upgraded drug database of Micromedex.


Pharm.D is a 6 years post-graduate pharmacy degree course. The Pharm.D degree consists of five years of classroom and hospital-based studies, followed by one year of hospital internship in addition to ongoing practicals and research project. Pharm D is a post graduate degree and passed out students can directly register for Ph D.

The Pharm D course offers a very good theoretical and practical knowledge to students on Pharmacotherapeutics,Clinical Pharmacy,                           Clinical Research, Biopharmaceutics, Hospital Pharmacy, and Community Pharmacy.

At our institution Pharm D students are well provided with good infrastructure and learning facilities to build up their knowledge and improve their practice in Pharmacotherapy. Our students carry out their practical classes at NG Hospital Pvt Ltd. It is a 300 Bedded hospital offering medical services at various departments; General Medicine, Gastroenterology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, and General Surgery being the most specialized departments.

Cherran Pharm-D

Ward Rounds

Pharm D students are posted regularly in various departments to participate ward rounds with the physicians, which offer them a very good knowledge on safe use of drugs by monitoring the therapy regimen of the patients. The physicians teach the students about various issues involved in prescribing drugs and changing drug therapy to ensure patient safety. The students come across a variety of cases and drug therapy which improve their knowledge on Pharmacotherapeutics.

Patient Medical and Medication interview

Involving in Patient Medical and Medication interviews improves the students’ ability to communicate with patients. This would help them in retrieving information from the patients regarding their past medical and medication history.

Pharm D students employ formulated systems in getting information’s so as to facilitate good patient information retrieval.

Patient Counselling

Pharm. D students are posted at counselling sections at various departments. The students give counselling to the patients regarding correct and safe usage of medicines, and diet and life-style modifications.


Pharm.D     students   are actively  involved   in Pharmacovigilance (PV) activities like detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects or any other drug-related problem.

Drug & Poison Information Services

Drug & Poison Information Services were established in NG Hospital Pvt Ltd and quipped with advanced drug reference data base of Micromedex to answer the drug and poison information’s to the health care professional and public.

Outreach Activities

Through the outreach program, the Cherraan’s College of Pharmacy offers an enrichment opportunity for highly motivated students who wish to explore a challenging  alternative educational experience outside of the traditional pharmacy curriculum.

Department of Pharmacy Practice is organizing the community based outreach activities to encourage the Pharm. D students to participate in the creating awareness on safe and effective medication use,management of chronic diseases and prevention of communicable diseases.

Seminar/ Guest Lectures

Department of Pharmacy Practice is continuously arranging seminars and guest lectures for Pharm. D students from leading Hospitals, Industries and institutions to update the Pharma field and clinical knowledge.


Department of Pharmacy Practice provides the adequate facility to carry out the research in clinical settings and encouraging the students to participate and present their research work in various scientific conferences and journals
